Are Labubu Worth the Hype?

If you’ve been online lately, you’ve probably seen Labubu figures popping up everywhere. They’re these small, sharp-toothed, elf-like creatures that somehow look creepy and cute at the same time. At first, I didn’t understand why people were so obsessed with them. Now I actually find myself wanting one too - even though they’re not always easy to buy or affordable.

So… are Labubu really worth the hype?

What makes them special?

Labubu are part of a designer-toy world created by Kasing Lung. The style is very recognizable - big ears, big eyes, sharp little teeth, and a mischievous expression. They stand out compared to typical “cute” collectibles. They have personality, and that’s why so many people love them.

They’re also sold in blind boxes, which means you don’t know which character you’re getting. That adds a little bit of curiosity and excitement, but it also makes some of the rare ones really expensive on the resale market.

Why are they trending so much?

A few reasons:

  • They look unusual, so they’re eye-catching in photos.

  • Collectors love series that feel like art instead of basic toys.

  • Influencers and online unboxing videos make them feel even more special.

  • Some editions are limited, which boosts the “must-have” feeling.

It’s the same kind of hype that happens with sneakers, enamel pins, or Pokémon cards - that mix of design, rarity, and online culture.

The downside

The big issue is availability. Depending on where you live, it can be hard to find a Labubu that ships to you without the price being high. And when you finally find one you like, it might be resold for even more. That part definitely makes you wonder if the hype is pushing the prices too far.

So… are they worth it?

It depends on what you’re looking for. If you enjoy small collectibles with personality and you like the thrill of searching for the right one, then yes - Labubu can be totally worth it. They’re fun, strange, expressive, and unique.

But if you’re just curious because they’re trending, it might be better to wait until you find one at a reasonable price. The hype doesn’t mean you need to rush into buying one immediately.

For me, I didn’t like them at first, but now I get the appeal. And maybe one day I’ll get one too - when I finally find the right one that doesn’t cost a fortune.
